BAM Remembers Robin Williams

It was 1978 and the alien Mork had just landed in American living rooms. There was a genuine buzz right from the beginning. This Robin Williams guy was something completely different, and whether you liked him or not, you had to watch him on the Mork and Mindy TV show. But we in the San Francisco Bay Area knew that the guy playing Mork actually lived, in real life, among us. In the mid-1970s, there were regular sightings of [...]

SAN FRANCISCO’S QUEEN OF ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

If you are not in the age demographic that immediately knows the name Grace Slick, please let BAM introduce you to the undisputed “Queen of San Francisco Rock ‘n’ Roll.”  Grace grew up in Palo Alto, California- just a stone’s throw from Stanford University. In 1967, she got her first break in music singing with a band that had the ironically political name “Great Society.” (Back in 1964-65, the Great Society was a set of domestic programs in the [...]

SUMMER OF LOVE’s GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

SUMMER OF LOVE PROCLAMATION By Boots Hughson There are moments in time when a word or thought has such power it changes history; a generation so involved in the moment it becomes unstoppable; a spiritual awakening so profound that its very conception shatters perceptions, halts the world and makes people from all nations take notice. It began with a simple four-letter word – LOVE! In the 1960’s this word became synonymous with a generation and city called San Francisco. It was a [...]

DJ “M. Dung” Passes A-WAY

From 1983 through the early 1990's, KFOG-FM in San Francisco had a legendary disc jockey on the air known as M.   Travel back in time!  We're going back to from 1984 to 1992 when KFOG 104.5 FM had a real "Wild and Crazy" DJ doing the morning drive time hours.  His name was M. Dung and he was as unique and different as Wolfman Jack was in the 1960's on the AM dial.  "Dung Boy" as we affectionally called him got his foot in the KFOG door by hosting what he called "The Sunday Night Idiot Show!"  He pulled all [...]
