CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR MUSIC LEGEND PAUL KANTNERKenny Wardell
The 39th Annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair announces the line-up for this years fair to be held on June 12th 2016 from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm. Robert Leon, Executive Director for the fair has announced that this years line-up of artists is a “Historic event forged from the classic counter culture movement of the 60’s. This year we have decided to dedicate the Stanyan street stage music to one of the original Jefferson Airplane members that left us this year, Paul Kantner. We will honor his life where it had all began. Paul Kantner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and recent recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Grammy, was a native of San Francisco and spent his life here. This concert will give the fans a chance to gather and celebrate the life and music of this extraordinary person, and so it only seems fitting that we host the “Paul Kantner, Celebration of Life Concert Jefferson Starship with Family and Friends”.
The fair has not released the names of all the performers, but the word on the street is that Paul Kantner’s daughter China and the first singer of Jefferson Airplane Signe Ettlin’ children will be performing alongside past and present members of the Jefferson Starship. Also on the bill, will be David Freiberg’s Quicksilver Messenger Service and the David Nelson Band w/ David Nelson, Barry Sless, Pete Sears, John Molo and Mookie Siegal. Robert Leon also says “The fair has not seen this much enthusiasm in years and we expect a huge turnout and great music, as the fair is consistently known for. We take great pride in our community and heritage, so remember, the Haight Ashbury Street Fair Loves You!”
The Haight-Ashbury Street Fair is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the cultural and historical significance of this district by sponsoring the annual community celebration and in supporting community programs that incorporate the neighborhood’s spirit of diversity, cooperation and humanism.Since 1978, we have produced the annual, one-day street fair that allows the community to celebrate the cultural contributions this district has made to San Francisco. This festival provides the neighborhood with the opportunity to showcase the variety of mercantile, cultural and community services available in this district. By creating a festival atmosphere, the street fair creates a stage for many artisans, musicians, artists and performers to present their work to the public. And, as a community service, HASF enables many non-profit organizations a chance to conduct outreach campaigns. Our activities are not limited to a one-day festival. We also sponsor other community events such as the annual Halloween Hootenanny that provides a safe environment for the children of the neighborhood to celebrate the spirit of Halloween. We hope to promote and create many more programs and events that help serve the cultural needs of the Haight-Ashbury and anyone else that want to join in on the fun.
