On Nov. 29 at The Ace of Spades in Sacramento, the lights will dim and a band that no one has seen before in its present form will take the stage. RMBR (a.k.a. “Remember”) is an elite tribe of musicians whose common bond elevates the definition of the term “tribute band” to its most literal and quintessential level. These musicians will gather to carry on the legacy and unfinished work of one of rock’s most iconic founding fathers, the late Ronnie Montrose, on what would have been his 65th birthday.
On April 27, 2012, “A Concert For Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music” was held at the Regency Theater in S.F. to honor Mr. Montrose and his contribution to rock music. The core band for the evening was composed of vocalist Randy Scoles (Rogue), bassist Dan McNay (Tesla, Michael Lee Firkins), and drummer Steve Brown (Slow Lorries, Carol Doda, Oleander), all of whom were the members of Ronnie’s current band before his passing. Guitarist Tal Morris (Creedence Clearwater Revival, Huey Lewis & the News, Sons of Champlin), who had toured with Ronnie in the ’90s, and keyboardist Chuck Terpo (Gamma) rounded out the cast. It was during the rehearsals for this memorial concert that the idea for what is now RMBR was born. Randy, Dan and Tal tell the story.
RMBR’s debut at The Ace of Spades is a must see event with tons of extras, including guest appearances by Bill Church (Montrose), Dave Rude (Tesla), Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), and Paul Holgate (Heist), as well as an auction of one of Ronnie’s most prized instruments, a B3 Fire guitar, handmade by master guitar builder Gene Baker. Listen to this clip for a full run down of the evening’s highlights…(see below for guitar specifications)
The BAM crew will be at The Ace of Spades for this show and will give you a blow by blow review of the show, plus more info and audio from RMBR following the show. To wrap this up for now, here are a few humorous outtakes from the interview with Dan, Randy and Tal.
