Watch BAM TV’s Exclusive Interview With Chuy Gomez. Radio station 106 KMEL calls itself “the People’s Station.” And for more than 20 years, San Francisco has had the perfect person doing morning drive: Chuy Gomez. Chuy truly is a “people person.” It was never just lip service for him. When he closed the microphone at the end of his shift, he didn’t shut it off. Chuy was actively out in the community, making friends with everybody he met, converting those people into fans of his radio station. He is an influential voice in the hip-hop and R&B community, nurturing and supporting many up-and-coming singers and rappers. KMEL is a Top Five radio station in the Bay Area, and a lot of the credit for that success has to go to Chuy.

In the world of radio, it is extremely unusual to have spent 20+ years at the same radio station. But rather than celebrating this, on August 15 the management at Clear Channel Radio called Chuy into a meeting–and gave him his walking papers.
