barhof_logo-master-400x344The inductees for the 2013 Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame were announced recently by the S.F. Chronicle’s Ben Fong-Torres at the “Radio Day By the Bay” soiree at the historic KRE building in West Berkeley. This year’s list of Bay Area radio vets include the categories of Program Host, Newscaster, Sports, Pioneer, and Engineering. The recipients will be joining past inductees Ronn Owens, Don Sherwood, Al “Jazzbeau” Collins, Tom “Big Daddy” Donahue, and many other Bay Area broadcasting legends.  The Induction Ceremony will be held on November 2.  See below for details.

Former KFRC DJ Bobby Ocean and “shock jock” Dennis Erectus of KOME fame will have their pictures and legends added this year on the walls of the California Radio Historical Society’s “Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame.”  What are these guys’ real names?  If you attend the BARHOF induction ceremony, you just may find out!

For hundreds of Bay Area radio fans, the 2013 “Radio Day By The Bay” had KCBS’ morning drive radio anchor Stan Bunger, dapper as ever, serving as the day’s Master of Ceremonies. The day offered a huge collection of treasured antique radios auctioned off in fine style by KGO 810’s evening news anchor Peter Finch.  There was also a reading by the Broadcast Legends Old Time Radio Players of an original script of The Lone Ranger radio show.

For those who remember the beginning of San Francisco progressive rock/free-form radio, there was a reunion of some of the KSAN Jive 95 alumni, who were video recorded on stage at Radio Day. It was great to see some of the survivors, and hear those voices again!  “Scoop” Nisker, Richard Gossett, Terry McGovern, and Bonnie Simmons were among the group who recalled the good old days. Each signed copies of the recently released “KSAN Live Jive” CD, a benefit for the Haight Ashbury Free Medical Clinics.
