Green Day’s Rock & Roller Coaster Ride

gdayimage BERKELEY, CA – One of BAM’s all-time favorite Bay Area rock bands is the East Bay’s own Green Day starring Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (vocals, bass guitar), and Tre Cool (drums and percussion). The punk rock trio resided in Oakland after forming in 1986 and held residency at music clubs and venues like 924 Gilman Street, (Gilman) in Berkeley that spotlighted punk rock, pop punk, ska punk, and hard-core punk bands. The band members still live in the East Bay and have built a new studio in Oakland called “Otis.”

Green Day has sold over 75 million records worldwide and the band has just released its twelfth studio album Revolution Radio to world-wide critical acclaim.

This good news followed a four year break from performing and recording due to a case of maybe a little over work and a rock ‘n’ roll roller coaster ride that had Billie Joe go a little crazy on stage at a “I Heart Radio” concert in Las Vegas. That story is well documented but we’re happy that there is a happy ending and Green Day is back on track!

Speaking of world-wide, Green Day is launching a 2017 World Tour that includes Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, France, and the United Kingdom. Green Day starts their world tour right here in the Bay Area when they headline one of Live 105’s Not So Silent Night” concerts on Saturday December 10 at the Oracle Coliseum.

Getting ready for the world tour, Green Day played a small-venue warm-up gig for 1500 fans on October 29 at the UC Theatre in Berkeley that sold out in about an hour.  Thanks to photographer Chris Tuite and the UC Theatre for use of the concert photos.

Back in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s BAM Magazine hosted the Bay Area Music Awards- The Bammies. We’re happy to report that Green Day won more Bammie trophies than any other Bay Area band in the history of the annual awards show! 17 for 17! They also won a few other awards along the way:

American Music Awards, ASCAP Pop Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Brit Awards, Bammie Awards, Echo Awards, Esky Music Awards, Grammy Awards, Japan Gold Disc Awards, Juno Awards, Kerrang!
