Our annual Concert for Kids is not exactly a rock show for the little ones. Rather, it’s a festive night of music where concert-goers are asked to bring a new, unwrapped, toy or book for the kids. Our listeners–“Fogheads,” as we call them–are the most generous and thoughtful people around. And every year we watch truck after truck, filled with toys, get hauled off for the Marines’ Toys for Tots program. This year, the event happens on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, with Death Cab for Cutie and The Airborne Toxic Event performing. The show is sold-out, so if you’ve not bought tickets, you’ll have a tough time getting in at this point. If you are going, I’ll see you there! If you aren’t lucky enough to have a ticket, I have put together a mini-list of other cool things going on this weekend that might delight:
Friday, Dec. 9: The Tender Mercies will open for Elizabeth Cook at Slim’s (http://www.slimspresents.com/). I’ve mentioned this band in the past, which features musicians who have worked with, and still may be working with, Counting Crows. All ages, 15 bucks.
Saturday, Dec 10: Megan Slankard (http://meganslankard.com/) at the Swedish American Hall (http://www.cafedunord.com/ ). Megan has been featured on more than one KFOG Local Scene CD, and she is an amazing singer/songwriter. All ages, 15 bucks…
Here’s a little video Megan made–see if you spot me in it!
