My Personal Favorite Songs

My personal favorite songs that have a greasy, nasty guitar hook, vocal or vibe. Again this comes from my Dog Pound growing up in rustic, central Cleveland. These are in no particular order, just as they popped into my head…

Sit back, turn up the volume to eleven and enjoy.

  1. Green Manalishi – Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac
  2. Around the Plynth – The Faces
  3. Levee Breaks – Led Zeppelin
  4. Thirty Days in the Hole – Humble Pie
  5. Aint Superstitious – Jeff Beck Group
  6. Bang a Gong – T Rex
  7. Bag Drag – Cactus
  8. Apostrophe – Frank Zappa
  9. The Wizard – Black Sabbath
  10. Voodoo Child – Jimi Hendrix
  11. Remedy – The Black Crowes
  12. Funk #49 – James Gang
  13. No Fun – The Stooges
  14. SWABLR – Cream
  15. Rumble – Link Wray
  16. Constipation Blues – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
  17. Panic in Detroit – David Bowie
  18. Train Kept a Rollin’ – The Yardbirds
  19. Big Eyed Beans From Venus – Captain Beefheart
  20. Jumpin Jack Flash – Rolling Stones
  21. Bad Motor Scooter – Montrose
  22. EMI – Sex Pistols
  23. Sweet Jane – Lou Reed
  24. I Can See For Miles – The Who

  26. Evil Woman – Spooky Tooth
  27. Birds of Fire – Mahavishnu Orchestra
  28. Mississippi Queen – Mountain
  29. Rocky Mountain Way – Joe Walsh
  30. All the Young Dudes – Mott the Hoople
  31. Blitzkreig Bop – The Ramones
  32. Happening Ten Years Time Ago – The Yardbirds
  33. Aqualung – Jethro Tull
  34. Mean Town Blues – Johnny Winter
  35. Two Time Mama – Ten Years After

I’m sure I missed a ton, but I stopped at 35 choices…. I know this isn’t about Bay Area musicians, but these songs triggered something in many young Bay Area dudes to pick up a guitar and start a band.
